The Birth Of Milo
Body Back

The beginning of painting. Judi starts with his basic clothing first, using very thin layers of acrylic paints. There may sometimes be 7 to 10 or more layers on a particular area, each dried fully before the next is applied. This is always an interesting process since the colors add so much to the final character. Often the colors she begins with give way to something else as the personality of the character develops.

Poom Small

Note that his staff has changed. Milo wanted something a little knobbier, so Judi created one in clay. At this point, it's removable so that she can more easily deal with the figure. And, Look! Milo demanded and got a neat little goatee!

Body Front

The two photos below will give you a much more detailed picture of the multiple layers of paint, the shadings and shadows which make the "material" seem so realistic. Judi sometimes spend many hours getting such details just right.
